About the Series
POP stands for Pokémon Organized Play, the tournament and league programme now called Play! Pokémon. POP Series cards came in small packs of two cards rather than standard boosters.
Nine series were released, roughly one every six months from September 2004 to September 2009. POP Series 1 to 5 ran during the EX Series, POP Series 6 to 8 during Diamond & Pearl, and POP Series 9 during the Platinum era.
The series mixed reprints of cards that had rotated out of the format with cards exclusive to the programme, including alternate artwork that had previously only been printed in Japan.
Numbering & Identification
Each POP series numbers its own cards from 1 to 17, so the same number appears nine times across the programme. The gallery below labels each card with the series it belongs to.
POP Series cards carry the Pokémon Organized Play logo rather than a black star, which sets them apart from the Black Star Promo series.
How to identify one: look for the round Pokémon Organized Play logo and an N/17 number. The series number itself is not printed on the card — it is identified by the card's artwork and set listing.
