Pitch Black set overview
Pitch Black is the fifth English set of the Mega Evolution era. It went on sale on 17 July 2026, after prerelease events ran from 4 to 12 July. The digital version reached Pokémon TCG Live a day earlier, on 16 July. The set has 120 cards: an 84-card main list and 36 secret rares numbered 085/084 to 120/084.
The English set adapts the Japanese expansion Abyss Eye, which released on 22 May 2026. Both are built around Mega Darkrai ex. Darkrai is classified as the "Pitch-Black Pokémon" in the games, and the English set name comes from that classification rather than from the Japanese title.
At 120 cards, Pitch Black ties Chaos Rising as the smallest English set of the era. There was no Japanese subset to fold in, so the English list follows Abyss Eye almost card for card. The differences are short enough to list in full.

What changed from Abyss Eye
- Added: Mega Delphox ex (008/084), Mega Slowbro ex (031/084) and Jett (079/084). All three come from Japanese Gym promo sets.
- Cut: the Zarude Illustration Rare from the Abyss Eye secret list. That artwork is the English Elite Trainer Box promo instead.
- Holo Rares: Miraidon (028/084), Koraidon (047/084) and Zarude (056/084) are Holo Rares in the English list.
- Numbering: the English secret rares run 085/084 to 120/084, 36 cards against 37 in Japan.
Pitch Black chase cards
The six cards below are the most expensive singles in the set by market price on 27 September 2026. The Mega Darkrai ex Special Illustration Rare (116/084) has led the set since release. It is illustrated by Akira Egawa, and the same artwork appeared on the Japanese Abyss Eye SAR revealed on 20 May 2026. The gold Mega Darkrai ex (120/084) is the only Hyper Rare in the set and sits second. Tap a card to jump to it in the list.

85 illustrators are credited across the 120 cards. 5ban Graphics, the studio that renders most Pokémon ex and Trainer cards, has the most credits. The six Special Illustration Rares are where the artist matters most for price: Akira Egawa, GIDORA, REND, NC Empire, DOM and Naoki Saito. Abyss Eye is the Japanese source set. It released on 22 May 2026 with 81 numbered cards and 37 secret rares, sold in five-card packs. Pitch Black moves the same cards into ten-card packs and adds the three Gym promo cards listed in the overview. Japanese secret rares use the AR, SR and SAR labels, where the English set uses IR, UR and SIR. The Abyss Eye page has the full Japanese list with scans.

Pitch Black products and sealed prices
Every product launched on 17 July 2026 except the Build & Battle Box, which was sold at prerelease events from 4 July. The Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box was first sold through a Pokémon Center queue on 10 June 2026, over a month before release, with a limit of two per person. Each Build & Battle Box holds one of four promo cards numbered as ME Series Black Star Promos: Miraidon (MEP 082), Slowbro (MEP 083), Dhelmise (MEP 084) and Bastiodon (MEP 085). Three further stamped promos, Primarina, Zarude and Armarouge, were retailer gifts with purchase. Sealed prices are market prices from the same snapshot as the singles.

A few personal takes on the standout special-rarity cards from the set. These are the ones I'm most excited about, both as a collector and on artwork alone.
Mega Darkrai ex, SIR (116/084)
Mega Darkrai ex will undoubtedly be the most sought-after card in the set, and it’s probably safe to say that it will become the best Darkrai card ever printed (and maybe the most expensive too). Akira Egawa went full cosmic horror with the art, with the Darkrai in the centre and a burst of colours around it. It’s giving strong cthulhu vibes.
Mega Zeraora ex, SIR (114/084)
There isn’t much to say about this Zeraora except that it’s amazing! I love the colours on this one, and how the card morphs into the electric background. Even if it doesn’t match the doom and gloom vibe of the rest of the set, this card is easily one of my favourites.
Misty’s Vitality, UR (111/084)
You can always count on nostalgia when it comes to Gen 1 characters, especially Misty. Cards featuring Misty have previously maintained their value, but to have her on her own—now that’s trainer paradise! On top of that, if this card ends up being the mandatory engine that makes the new Mega Evolution decks work, players and collectors are going to be fighting over copies.
