Ascended Heroes Mega Attack Rares — New Rarity Explained

Mega Attack Rares are a brand new rarity type introduced in Ascended Heroes, featuring Mega Evolution Pokémon with unique attack-focused artwork and special holographic patterns. These cards represent the pinnacle of Mega Evolution power.

How Mega Attack Rares Work

Mega Attack Rares are mechanically identical to their standard Mega Evolution ex counterparts, but are distinguished by two visual signatures exclusive to Ascended Heroes:

  • Japanese Katakana attack names — a first for the English Pokémon TCG. The attack names are printed in their original Japanese script rather than translated.
  • Attack-focused holographic patterns — a unique foil treatment framing the attack text box, visually distinct from SIRs and standard Mega Evolution ex cards.

To play a Mega Attack Rare, you must first have the corresponding Basic Pokémon ex in play, then evolve it using the Mega Evolution rule — attaching a Mega Evolution Spirit Link item card prevents your turn from ending. There are 7 Mega Attack Rares in the set, one for each featured Mega Evolution Pokémon.

💫 New Rarity Alert: Mega Attack Rares! Exclusive to Ascended Heroes, these cards feature attack names printed in Japanese Katakana — a first for the English TCG. They are already defining the set as instant grails.
