Nintendo, Creatures Inc. and Game Freak have filed four new trademarks in Japan for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Three read like expansion names: マグマの鼓動, イナズマの衝撃 and オーロラの波紋. The fourth is バトルスタートデッキ, Battle Start Deck.

The filings came to light on 29 October 2026. The Pokémon Company has not announced a product with any of these names.

The four names

TrademarkReadingIn English
マグマの鼓動Maguma no KodōHeartbeat of Magma, also translated Pulse of Magma
イナズマの衝撃Inazuma no ShōgekiImpact of Lightning
オーロラの波紋Ōrora no HamonRipples of the Aurora
バトルスタートデッキBatoru Sutāto DekkiBattle Start Deck

All four are filed in Class 28, games, toys and playthings, which is where the three companies register Pokémon TCG set names. The English names here are translations, not official titles. Japanese set names usually change for the English release: Storm Emeralda became Delta Reign.

Three names, three legendary beasts

The ex★ series, which follows the Mega Evolution series, was announced on 31 August 2026 with a teaser of Raikou, Entei and Suicune, each in its own element: Entei in fire, Raikou in lightning and Suicune in water. The three new names line up with them one to one.

Entei, animated sprite from Pokémon Black and White
マグマの鼓動 Heartbeat of Magma Entei · Volcano Pokémon
Raikou, animated sprite from Pokémon Black and White
イナズマの衝撃 Impact of Lightning Raikou · Thunder Pokémon
Suicune, animated sprite from Pokémon Black and White
オーロラの波紋 Ripples of the Aurora Suicune · Aurora Pokémon

Suicune is the closest fit. Its Japanese category is オーロラポケモン, so the trademark uses the same word.

Where they started: all three debuted in Pokémon Gold and Silver in 1999. These are their sprites from Pokémon Crystal; the tiles above are from Black and White.

A match, not a confirmation

None of the filings names a Pokémon or a series. Reading them as ex★ sets comes from the names and the teaser; The Pokémon Company has not linked them.

Battle Start Deck

Battle Start Deck is a product name, not a set name. It joins two words Japanese beginner products already use: Start Deck 100 Battle Collection, released on 19 December 2025, was a box of more than 100 ready-made decks.

What a Battle Start Deck holds, how many versions there are and when it comes out have not been reported.

When they could release

No dates have been reported. Pokémon TCG set names usually surface in this class six months to a year before the set: MEGA x MEGA Parade was filed in July 2026 and is reported for 19 February 2027.

If the three names are sets, that puts them in 2027, after MEGA x MEGA Parade. A filing is not a guarantee, though. Names can change before release, and some registered names never reach a product.
