30th Celebration Prices: Release Day to Now
The English set landed on 16 September. Two days and 24,089 recorded single-card sales later, almost every number attached to it has moved — and the pre-order prices turn out to have been built on 218 sales in total.
30th Celebration is the biggest English release the Pokémon TCG has ever built around an anniversary, and it arrived with a pre-order market that had spent weeks quoting eye-watering numbers at people. Then it actually released, packs got opened, and the market found out what everything was worth.
This is the whole set measured twice: once on release day, 16 September 2026, and again now, on 18 September. Every single, every sealed product, plus the pre-release quotes for context. It is a deliberately short window — but it is the window in which the set lost, and in a handful of cases gained, most of what it was ever going to move.
The Window
Release day is not a single moment on TCGplayer. Product ships early to some sellers, pre-release events leak cards, and the first sales trickle in against listings that were priced by guesswork. What changes on the release date itself is volume: across the 158 numbered cards in this set, TCGplayer recorded 218 sales in the entire pre-release period and 24,089 in the three days from 16 to 18 September. That is the difference between a market and a rumour.
Measured across those two days, 141 of the 158 cards fell, 16 rose and 1 finished level. The median card lost 58.5% of its value. But the median hides the shape of it, because the set split cleanly in two:
Pre-order Fiction
Before we compare anything to a pre-release price, it is worth being blunt about what those prices were. TCGplayer publishes a market price for unreleased singles, and that number is generated by whatever listings exist — not by sales, because there mostly are none. Of the 158 cards in this set, 91 had not recorded a single sale before release day, and 121 of them still carried a quoted market price.
Here is what that produced. The sales columns are real counts, and they are the reason the left-hand price column is struck through:

Pre-order market price is TCGplayer’s last pre-release reading (bucket ending 15 September); sales columns are recorded TCGplayer sales in the pre-release window and in 16–18 September respectively.
The Futuristic Rare Mew ex was quoted at $1,864.72 on zero sales; it has since sold 84 times and sits at $151.48. Across every card that carried a pre-order quote, the median move from that quote to today is -90.6%. If you paid pre-order prices for 30th Celebration singles, you were not buying into a market. You were the market.

Everything numbered above 128 — the Illustration Rares, Special Illustration Rares and the two Futuristic Rares — is where the money in this set lives. These 30 cards are 90% of the set’s release-day value on their own.

Change column runs from release day (16 September) to now. The pre-order column is shown struck through because almost none of those numbers had completed sales behind them.
Two things stand out. The first is that the Special Illustration Rares mostly held: $204.16 for the Mew ex, $151.31 for Gengar ex, both of them slightly up on release day. The second is that the two Futuristic Rares did not. Mew ex 158 is down 39% and Mewtwo ex 157 down 27% in 48 hours — the classic signature of a card that was thinly supplied on day one and is no longer.
The Illustration Rares are the opposite trade. Alolan Meowth 139 is up 77%, Moltres 130 up 36%, Meowth 144 up 26%. These were underpriced into release day by sellers who had not yet worked out which of the 18 Illustration Rares people actually wanted.
The 30 Pikachu
The set’s headline gimmick is 30 different Pikachu by 30 different illustrators, numbered 023/128 to 052/128. Collectively they were worth $85.79 on release day and $64.99 now — a 24.2% haircut. Individually they have pulled apart fast, and the thing that separates them is supply, not art.

All 30 Pikachu Rares, 023/128 to 052/128, sorted by current market price. Listings is the number of separate TCGplayer listings live at the time of writing — the closest thing to a supply count.
Compare the top and bottom of that table. The three Pikachu that rose — 040, 036, 032 — have 31, 21 and 31 listings respectively. The ones that fell hardest are sitting on well over a hundred listings each. In a set this heavily opened, the number of copies on the shelf is doing almost all of the price discovery.
The Bottom
The commons and ordinary rares are where the release-day numbers were most misleading, and the correction has been brutal. On 16 September a typical common in this set was quoted around a dollar, because the only listings were early and optimistic. Two days of opened product later, the median common, uncommon or ordinary rare in the set sits at $0.18.

This is normal, and it is not a sign of anything wrong with the set — every modern release does this, and 30th Celebration has been opened harder than most. It is worth stating plainly only because release-day screenshots of dollar commons circulated widely, and those numbers never survived contact with supply.
Sealed
Sealed product is the part of this release where pre-order pricing meant something, because sealed 30th Celebration has been changing hands in volume since well before release. The comparison below runs from 3 September — a fortnight out, with real sales behind it — to now.

Pre-order column is the market price a fortnight before release, when sealed 30th Celebration product was already trading in real volume. MSRP is the US list price; no single-pack release exists in English, so the booster pack line is entirely secondary-market product broken out of boxes.
The Elite Trainer Box is the bellwether: $187.77 a fortnight out, $179.05 now, 4.6% off but still 3.6× its $49.99 MSRP, on 922 recorded sales in three days. Nothing about that looks like a collapse.
The exception is the Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box, down 40% from $500.29 to $300.74. That product was quoted on four recorded sales in early September and 171 have gone through since release — the same thin-to-liquid transition that repriced the Futuristic Rares, happening to a sealed item.
Going the other way, the Booster Bundle is up 34% from 3 September, and loose booster packs trade at $17.60 despite not existing as a retail product in English — every one of them has been broken out of a box by someone.
Classic Collection
The 30 Classic Collection reprints are sold as a separate TCGplayer set, and they are the purest version of the pattern in this whole article. All 30 recorded zero sales before release day. Not a thin market — no market. 1,240 copies have traded since.
Only four of them carried a quoted pre-order price at all, and all four have been cut in half or worse: the Base Set Charizard reprint from $380.00 to $174.91, Rayquaza EX from $299.00 to $28.59, N from $188.95 to $23.42, Arceus VSTAR from $45.00 to $8.12. Median: -84.8%.

All 30 Classic Collection cards. Every one of them recorded zero sales before release day, so only four carried a quoted pre-order price at all — the rest have no before figure to compare against.
Lugia leads the subset at $254.77, ahead of the Base Set Charizard at $174.91 and Magikarp at $138.94. One of each of the 30 comes to $1,035.32 — and a sealed Classic Collection pack trades at $302.97, which is more than an Ultra-Premium Collection costs at MSRP. For one pack.
What It Means
Three practical conclusions, in order of how much money they are worth:
Ignore pre-release single prices entirely. Not discount them — ignore them. A quoted market price with no sales behind it is a listing, and listings on unreleased cards are aspirational by construction. The 218 recorded pre-release sales against 24,089 in three days is the whole argument, and the Classic Collection makes it twice over: zero sales beforehand on all 30 cards, and the four that were quoted anyway are down a median -85%.
The first 48 hours are not the floor. Supply is still arriving: distributor cases are landing, pre-release stock is being opened, and the listing counts in the tables above are climbing daily. The cards that have fallen hardest here are the ones with the most listings, and the direction of that relationship has not changed yet.
Sealed and singles told completely different stories. Sealed 30th Celebration has been priced by real sales for a month, and it moved by single-digit percentages across release. Singles were priced by hope, and they moved by 91%. If you want the honest read on a set’s reception before it releases, the sealed market is the one worth watching.
Methodology
All prices are TCGplayer market prices for English near-mint singles and sealed product, in USD, with GBP shown at 0.7482 (the USD/GBP rate on 18 September 2026).
The release-day column is a snapshot of TCGplayer’s market price taken on 16 September 2026 at 18:23 UTC. The current column was taken on 18 September 2026 from the same source. Pre-order and 3 September figures, and all sales counts, come from TCGplayer’s published price history, which is bucketed in three-day periods — so “pre-order” means the last reading before 16 September and the sales counts are totals over the bucket, not daily figures.
The 30 Classic Collection cards are a separate TCGplayer set and are counted separately throughout — they are not part of the 158-card totals, the median, or the set-completion figure. Because they had no pre-release market at all, only a current reading exists for them.
Where a card number has several printings, the base card is priced rather than the pattern variant. Cards with no recorded market price on either date are excluded, which is why 158 of the set’s numbered cards appear rather than all of them. Prices move daily; everything here is a snapshot of 18 September 2026 and will be out of date quickly by design.
