About the Series
The Wizards Black Star Promos are the first English promo series. They ran alongside the Wizards of the Coast expansions, from Base Set through the e‑Card sets, and are the only Black Star Promo series that Wizards produced rather than Nintendo.
Promo cards are not sold in booster packs. They were given out at events, packed with products, or distributed through Pokémon-related merchandise.
Numbering & Identification
Cards in this series carry a plain number with no denominator. The number sits in the black star where an expansion symbol would normally be.
Every Black Star Promo carries a black star where an expansion symbol would normally sit. That mark is what gives the series its name.
How to identify one: look for the black star in the bottom corner of the card art, with a number inside it and no set symbol. Wizards-era promos also carry the Wizards of the Coast copyright line.
