Dual-Type Cards Are Coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket
The Pokémon TCG Pocket panel at PokémonXP announced dual-type cards for the game on 28 August 2026. The first one shown is Mega Mewtwo X ex, which prints both the Psychic and the Fighting type symbol. The same teaser showed first partner Pokémon as Pokémon ex cards, with Piplup ex and Fuecoco ex. The Pokémon Company says these additions start rolling out in October 2026 and will open a new series of Pokémon TCG Pocket expansions. Three cards have been shown. The set name, the set code and the exact release date have not been announced.

What the Mega Mewtwo X ex card shows
Where a Pokémon TCG Pocket card normally prints one type symbol beside its HP, Mega Mewtwo X ex prints two: Psychic and Fighting. That is the whole of what has been confirmed about dual typing so far.
- It is a Basic. The card carries the Basic stage badge and the Mega Evolution ex rule, which gives the opponent 3 points on a knockout instead of the usual 2.
- 180 HP, weakness Darkness +20, retreat cost 2.
- Dual Impact costs two Psychic Energy and one Colorless, and does 100 damage, plus 40 more if a Stadium is in play.
- Illustrated by PLANETA Igarashi, and shown at four-diamond rarity.
How a dual-type card behaves in the Energy Zone, and whether the second type affects anything beyond the symbol, were not covered in the trailer or the news post.
First partner Pokémon ex
The second half of the teaser introduces first partner Pokémon as Pokémon ex cards. Piplup ex and Fuecoco ex are the two shown, scrapping over apples in an orchard. The Pokémon Company’s post leaves the rest open, saying only that other first partners may follow.
Both are Basics at four-diamond rarity. Piplup ex has 120 HP and one attack that moves a Water Energy out of the Energy Zone onto a Benched Pokémon. Fuecoco ex has 130 HP and two attacks, the second of which triples its damage once Fuecoco has taken any.
What has not been announced
- The name of the expansion, and its set code.
- The release date inside October 2026.
- The card count, and how many of the cards are dual-type.
- Whether existing Pokémon will be reprinted as dual-type cards, or whether the mechanic is limited to new ones.
- Which other first partner Pokémon get ex cards.
