The Set at a Glance

Pitch Black (ME05) is the fifth set in the Mega Evolution era, released 17 July 2026. The base set runs to 84 cards, with the secret rares numbered from 85 to 120. Mega Darkrai ex is the set's headline card and takes the top two positions — the Special Illustration Rare at 116/084 and the Hyper Rare at 120/084. As with earlier Mega Evolution sets, the SIR sells for more than the higher-tier Hyper Rare.

Below the two Darkrai cards, the Mega ex Special Illustration Rares — Morpeko, Zeraora and Chandelure — fill out the upper end. The Trainer SIRs (Gwynn, Gladion's Final Battle) and Misty's Vitality sit in the $28–$42 band. The two Illustration Rares that round out the list, Slowbro and Goldeen, are the most affordable cards here.

The Top 10, Counted Down

#10
Goldeen
$17.55 / £13.04
087/084 · ME05: Pitch Black
Illustration Rare
Goldeen 087/084 Pitch Black

Goldeen is a Water-type from Generation I. Its Illustration Rare is one of two IRs to reach the top 10, and it sits at the bottom of the list as the most affordable single here. Both IRs are needed to complete a master set.

#9
Slowbro
$22.60 / £16.79
090/084 · ME05: Pitch Black
Illustration Rare
Slowbro 090/084 Pitch Black

Slowbro is a Water/Psychic-type from Generation I. The second Illustration Rare in the top 10, sitting just above Goldeen. Slowbro is a long-running fan favourite, which keeps its IR ahead of the other lower-rarity chase cards in the set.

#8
Misty's Vitality
$28.95 / £21.51
111/084 · ME05: Pitch Black
Ultra Rare
Misty's Vitality 111/084 Pitch Black

A full-art Trainer Ultra Rare featuring Misty, the Water-type Gym Leader from Cerulean City. It's the only Ultra Rare in the top 10 — URs rarely rank alongside SIRs, and the Misty name is what carries this one. There is also a reverse-holo Misty's Vitality lower in the set for players who want the effect without the full-art price.

#7
Gladion's Final Battle
$31.43 / £23.35
118/084 · ME05: Pitch Black
Special Illustration Rare
Gladion's Final Battle 118/084 Pitch Black

One of two Trainer SIRs in Pitch Black. Gladion is a character from Pokémon Sun and Moon, known for his Type: Null and Silvally. At $31.43 it's the more affordable of the set's two Trainer SIRs. A full-art version of the card also appears earlier in the numbering.

#6
Gwynn
$42.00 / £31.21
119/084 · ME05: Pitch Black
Special Illustration Rare
Gwynn 119/084 Pitch Black

The second Trainer SIR, and the pricier of the two. Gwynn appears three times in the set — as this SIR (119/084), a full-art at 109/084, and a reverse holo at 78/084 — so completists chasing every version have more to buy. It carries a premium over Gladion's Final Battle.

#5
Mega Chandelure ex
$59.13 / £43.93
115/084 · ME05: Pitch Black
Special Illustration Rare
Mega Chandelure ex 115/084 Pitch Black

Chandelure is a Ghost/Fire-type from Generation V. This is the cheapest of the set's Mega ex SIRs, but its dark, ghostly design fits the Pitch Black theme well. It also has a standard Ultra Rare print lower in the set for players.

#4
Mega Zeraora ex
$79.95 / £59.40
114/084 · ME05: Pitch Black
Special Illustration Rare
Mega Zeraora ex 114/084 Pitch Black

Zeraora is an Electric-type Mythical from Generation VII. Its Mega ex Special Illustration Rare sits just below the $80 mark — the second-highest of the set's Mega ex SIRs, behind only the Darkrai at the top of the list.

#3
Morpeko ex
$103.69 / £77.04
117/084 · ME05: Pitch Black
Special Illustration Rare
Morpeko ex 117/084 Pitch Black

Morpeko is an Electric/Dark-type from Generation VIII. Its SIR is the only card besides the two Darkrai to clear $100, and notably it does so as a plain ex rather than a Mega ex — outpricing both of the Mega ex SIRs below it. Morpeko's popularity from the Galar games keeps demand high.

#2
Mega Darkrai ex
$241.07 / £179.12
120/084 · ME05: Pitch Black
Hyper Rare
Mega Darkrai ex 120/084 Pitch Black

The Hyper Rare (gold) version of Mega Darkrai ex — the highest rarity tier in the set. Despite sitting above the SIR on the rarity ladder, it sells for around $60 less. That has been the pattern across the Mega Evolution era so far: full-scene illustration SIRs consistently beat the gold Hyper Rares.

#1
Mega Darkrai ex
$300.00 / £222.90
116/084 · ME05: Pitch Black
Special Illustration Rare
Mega Darkrai ex 116/084 Pitch Black

The most valuable card in Pitch Black. Darkrai is a Dark-type Mythical from Generation IV and the face of the set — the name Pitch Black points straight at it. The Special Illustration Rare sits at $300 ungraded, comfortably ahead of every other card, including its own Hyper Rare.

As the chase card of a Darkrai-themed set, this is the one most openers are hoping to pull. Graded copies sell for well above the loose value.

Just Missed the Cut

Armarouge (086/084, IR) — $11.01. A Fire/Psychic-type from Generation IX. One of the set's Illustration Rares, just below Goldeen.

Mega Chandelure ex (099/084, UR) — $10.99. The standard Ultra Rare print of Chandelure — the same Pokémon as the #5 card, but the regular ex version rather than the Mega ex SIR, and priced far lower.

Notes

Mega Darkrai ex takes the top two slots and is the only card above $200. The SIR (116/084) beats the Hyper Rare (120/084) by around $60, continuing the pattern seen across the Mega Evolution era. Morpeko ex is the only other card to clear $100. Below that, the Mega ex SIRs and Trainer SIRs fill the $30–$80 range, with two Illustration Rares closing out the list. Every value above is ungraded — graded copies, particularly of the Darkrai SIR, sell for more.
