Generation X · Nintendo Switch 2 · 2027
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are the next pair of main series games, releasing exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. The two versions launch worldwide on the same day. They are the first Generation X titles.
The setting is an open world of windswept islands and open ocean. The Pokémon living there have formed their own ecosystems around that environment. Game Freak has said the player will team up with Pokémon to cross difficult terrain and to deal with the weather and sea conditions that block the way.
Three first partner Pokémon, both version protagonists, and two Pikachu with a new look have been shown so far. Nothing has been announced about the region's name, the story, or the Pokédex.
The player character's outfit is the one confirmed difference between the two versions. Each version shows the same two protagonists wearing version-specific clothing.
The Winds outfit uses a pale wide-brimmed hat with a yellow and grey top.
The Waves outfit uses a blue cap with a pink and grey top.
Three first partners were revealed: Browt, Pombon and Gecqua. As in every main series game, you pick one at the start. All three have the standard starter abilities — Overgrow, Blaze and Torrent.
