Aardman and The Pokémon Company International debuted the teaser trailer for their stop-motion series on 28 August 2026, at the PokémonXP fan event. It is set in Galar, the episodes have no dialogue, and it streams worldwide on Disney+ in 2027.
On 28 August 2026, at the PokémonXP fan event, Aardman and The Pokémon Company International held a panel called “Behind the Scenes with Aardman” and used it to debut the teaser trailer for Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu. It is a stop-motion series set in the Galar region, and it will stream on Disney+ worldwide in 2027.
The panel was led by three members of the Aardman team: director Tom Parkinson, creative director Nat McKay, and model-making creative lead James Young. They talked through the design and puppet-building process before the trailer played.

This is the first proper trailer for the series. It follows a short teaser shown at a Pokémon Presents in July 2025 that revealed only the title, and a set of character artwork shown at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2026.
The trailer is built from hand-crafted stop-motion, the same technique Aardman uses on Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep. It shows Sirfetch’d and Pichu moving through the Galar countryside and rushing to help other Pokémon, with the physical-comedy timing the studio is known for. Neither character speaks.
The official synopsis describes “an epic journey through the wilds of Galar,” with the two Pokémon on “a gallant quest to help and protect Pokémon across the region.” Their plans go wrong more often than they go right, and the series leans on that for its comedy. The Pokémon Company frames it as a chance to tell a story from a Pokémon’s point of view rather than a trainer’s.
Galar is the region from Pokémon Sword and Shield, and it is modelled on the United Kingdom. Aardman is a British studio based in Bristol, which the two companies have repeatedly pointed to as the reason the setting and the studio fit together.
The two leads: Sirfetch’d is the Galarian evolution of Farfetch’d, a duck Pokémon that fights with a leek stalk. Pichu is the pre-evolution of Pikachu. This is a deliberate move away from putting Pikachu at the centre.
The Aardman team confirmed at the panel that the episodes are non-verbal. Neither Sirfetch’d nor Pichu talks, and there is no narration. The story is carried by the animation, the sound design and the score, in the same way as Shaun the Sheep.
One practical effect of that choice: there is no voice cast to announce, and localisation for other countries is mostly a matter of on-screen text rather than dubbing.
Pokémon Tales was picked up by Disney Kids & Family as part of a wider distribution deal between Disney and The Pokémon Company International. Under that deal:
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, said the series brings “a bold, playful new perspective” to the Pokémon world. Phil Rynda, who leads original animation at The Pokémon Company International, described it as a chance to “tell stories from the point of view of Pokémon.”
