Gengar is one of the most collected Pokémon in the TCG, with chase cards spanning everything from the vintage Gym and Neo sets to the latest Mega Evolution releases. Here are the ten most expensive Gengar cards on the market right now.
They're ranked by current ungraded price, with the PSA 10 figure listed alongside so you can see what a top grade adds.
How to read this: Prices reflect recent ungraded sales. The PSA 10 column shows what a perfect graded copy goes for — some modern promos and Prize Pack exclusives have too few graded copies for a reliable figure.

1.Gengar #H9 — Skyridge

Gengar sits to the right of this card with a menacing grin, staring towards the ethereal scene to the left. The retro holographic pattern makes this card the top Gengar chase.
2.Mega Gengar ex #284 — Ascended Heroes

Mega Gengar ex sits atop a cauldron-like globe which emits red and green vapour. The unblinking third eye sits menacingly in the middle of the card, looking off into the distance. This is the latest Gengar card, and already it's jumped to second in ungraded price.
3.Gengar & Mimikyu GX #165 — Team Up

Gengar and Mimikyu are drawn in a soft style, with black and grey shadows in the background, almost as if they're sitting in a cupboard, waiting to pounce on whoever discovers them.
4.Gengar EX #108 — FireRed & LeafGreen

I can't say I like this card. Gengar is depicted in a 3D art style, rather bulbous, with a glittering holo effect surround. They're looking directly at us, but are distinctly not scary and almost cute.
5.Dark Gengar (1st Edition) #6 — Neo Destiny

Dark Gengar, with a deep purple hue and distinctly glassy pale eyes, has a distinctly sinister grin. Some light purple holo in the background really completes this card.
6.Gengar (Prerelease Staff) #SWSH241 — Promo

Gengar looks as if it's pouncing towards you, accelerating away from the moonlit gate in the background. The vertical holo in the background accentuates the balloon-like body.
7.Gengar VMAX (Prize Pack) #157 — Fusion Strike

This could be the pinnacle of 5ban Graphics' in-house design team. The huge tongue, leading down into the depths of its digestive system, really leads us in to the centre of the card. Gengar is not scary, and rather inviting on this card! The colourful swirls enveloping the Gigantamax Gengar really complete the look.
8.Gengar (Reverse Holo) #11 — Legendary Collection

This vintage design almost focuses more on the card, with a busy firework holo and a plastic-looking Gengar, with pearly-white teeth, sat on what looks like a tree trunk. I love the holo, but I'm less of a fan of the Gengar design myself.
9.Gengar VMAX #271 — Fusion Strike

The tongue is back! But this time the scene around Gengar evokes more of a destructive but playful style, enveloping and consuming everything within reach.
10.Sabrina's Gengar (1st Edition) #14 — Gym Heroes

Now this card really is a classic vintage design. A simple depiction of our king Gengar, with a beautiful celestial holo in the background. I love the simplicity of design — it works so well on this vintage card.
Vintage vs Modern Gengar Cards
One pattern stands out: the vintage cards — Skyridge, FireRed & LeafGreen and Gym Heroes — carry huge PSA 10 premiums, since clean copies are rare. The modern hits like Mega Gengar ex trade much closer to their ungraded price.
